The bright red paint is still in excellent shape. There are a couple of barely noticeable, very minor chips. The front tempered glass looks great with no cracks or chips. The side plexiglass windows side open and closed well and also look great. The black canvas top and boot are in fantastic shape, no rips, stains or buttons missing. Both are easy to install and remove. The three chrome wheels are in good shape with few minor scrapes on them. They are wrapped in 4.00-8C B13 tires with lots of life left. The rubber piece around the gas cap has a rip in it, but it still functions as it is supposed to. The chrome trim pieces are all there and look good. The one door on this car opens from the left side and is very reminiscent of an airplane cockpit. There are two clips that hold the hood down. One of them has broken off, but we still have it.

The red vinyl seats are in great shape – no rips, wear or stains. The red carpet also looks great with no stains. The red vinyl panels on both sides of the interior are in good shape. There are a couple of slits in them. The speedometer and odometer work. The matching red painted metal dash is in great shape. The engine is the original air-cooled single-cylinder two stoke with 191 cc with 4 speed forward and reverse manual transmission and 12 volt system. Dimensions are height of 49 inches, length of 112 inches, width of 50 inches, and wheelbase of 82 inches. The car weighs about 506 pounds, has a top speed of about 65 mph, 10 hp, and can get over 55 mpg. “Cousin It” on the Addams Family drove a white Messerschmitt and Elvis Presley owned a red KR200. There are car clubs in Europe, the US, and elsewhere that still value these cars, usually for their quirky character rather than their actual monetary value. The VIN is 61677 and this car is showing only 3078 miles. It is being sold on a mileage exempt Colorado title. History: The Messerschmitt KR200, or Kabinenroller (cabin scooter), was a three-wheeled bubble car designed by the aircraft engineer Fritz Fend and produced in the factory of the German aircraft manufacturer Messerschmitt in the 1950s and early 1960s. When the war in Europe ended, Messerschmitt and other German aircraft companies were no longer permitted to build planes. To fill the product void, Messerschmitt AG began producing alloy framed, pre-fab housing kits and three-wheeled “bubblecars.” Although designed by an aircraft engineer, the ‘Schmitt’ was not cobbled together with left over aircraft parts and the ‘cockpit’ canopy did not come from scraped Bf109 fighter planes. The most noticeable thing about the KR200 "limousine" model is its distinctive bubble canopy. Three-wheeled, low to the ground, and sporting two perfectly round headlights, these cars were unusual, even by the standards of microcars. The KR200 ran on a one cylinder two-stroke air-cooled motor scooter engine, which was in front of the rear wheel, just behind the passenger's seat. It had very simple controls, including a steering bar reminiscent of that of an aircraft. These Kabinenrollers (cabin scooters) were developed by one Fritz Fend and feature characteristics common to aircraft—light weight materials, tandem seating and aerodynamic styling. The first of the Kabinenrollers grew out of studies Fend penned for a single-seat; three-wheeled car designed for disabled war veterans.

Unveiled in the spring of 1955, the KR200 represented evolutionary upgrades in virtually every area. The engine displacement increased to 191cc, the track was widened and a more sophisticated suspension installed. A clever system allowed the engine to start backwards thus yielding 4 reverse gears. Cosmetic changes included a slightly restyled front end and a cleaner canopy design with improved visibility. The KR200 was small, fuel efficient, and inexpensive. In a country in the throes of the after-effects of war but with an extensive system of motorways, it was well-matched to the demands of the time. Having the second seat behind, rather than beside the driver and only a single rear wheel not only reduces frontal area but allows the body to taper like an aircraft fuselage, within a practical length. Ten horsepower (7 kW) propelled it at around 65 mph (105 km/h). The consumption of the car was 57 mpg. Approximately 16,000 KR200s were built at the Messerschmitt Regensburg factory before the company was, once again, allowed to return to aircraft production. Sensing sufficient consumer demand, Fend formed his own company (FMR) and continued production of the KR200 under the “Messerschmitt” name. Production of the KR200 ceased in 1964 as sales had been dropping for a few years. The demand for basic economy transport in Germany had diminished as the German economy boomed.
